Nearly 20 years old and responsible for over 3.2 million matches, Shaadi is one of India’s best-known dating sites.
- A huge membership base
- 100 per cent money back guarantee
- Impressive matching schematics
- Too many ads on the website
For a website that’s responsible for 3.2 million matches since its inception in 1996, it’s safe to say that Shaadi does not disappoint. With both a solid website and massive membership base, daters are in good hands with the world’s largest matrimonial service — which, going by their own praise, hosts over 20 million members. The site has also won a slew of awards that includes People’s Choice and Most Trusted, which just adds to its already impressive resume. When members sign in, they will discover why Shaadi has made such a name for itself — not only as a matchmaking website, but as one of India’s best-known brands.
This is perhaps best displayed in the Shaadi Pride section of the website, where tons on tons of Shaadi members pen their love stories blog-style alongside an image of the post’s authors. This feature goes as far back as 2001, and the website continues to encourage members to submit their success stories.
The website itself is easy to navigate, thanks in great part to the Shaadi toolbar that gives members access to the most pertinent tools like messages and contacts. Members also have an impressive variety of search options to choose from when seeking singles, some of which include: profession, astrology data, and family values.
The site is intended for Indian singles to meet and marry, and Shaadi drives this home by allowing family members access to members’ accounts, where they can review matches with other prospective singles with a Shaadi matchmaker at one of Shaadi’s 150 Shaadi.com centers in 87 of India’s cities. Unfortunately, Shaadi’s service is only available to heterosexual singles, providing no options for bisexual or homosexuals for – what I presume is – religious reasons.
The sign-up process for Shaadi.com is more involved than most dating websites — which is to say, yes, it is quite lengthy. Aside from the more standard information that’s asked of members from most dating websites, Shaadi begins their sign-up by asking who the profile is for (options are: self, son, daughter, brother, sister), then asks your religion and which community you belong to. After that, members state how long they’ve lived in Canada, which sub-community they belong to (Anglo Indian, Catholic Knanya, etc.), and then they’re on to describe their physical details such as height, body type, and diet.
You’re not done yet! Next comes your education level, education field, and mobile number (you’ll be sent an input code), to which you’re finally asked to provide a little bit about yourself. Finally, just as you think you might be done, members are thrown another curveball (for security reasons) and are asked to provide valid ID proof (I chose not to fill this out, so I can’t tell you what happens next).
Members & Messaging
In terms of communicating with other members, Shaadi doesn’t steer far away from the standard — with a few exceptions. Members can view profiles (including photos and videos), show interest in other members, email, and instant message. The exception here is members also have the opportunity to message anonymously. Also worth noting: family members are encouraged to review matches with a Shaadi-elected matchmaker at one of the 150 Shaadi.com centers in 87 of India’s cities.
• Smart Search shortlists members based on 24+ criteria, including: astrology data, family values, and so on.
• Shaadi Toolbar makes for easy access to messages, contacts, etc.
